Holes in Flesh and Blood

I liked this episode and you can shut up, but here are some holes that bugged me.

I think I'm finding a new tradition in Moffat writing - he has a tendency to open up plot ideas and forget about them. Like why the Angels wanted bodies. The Angels were killing them, not throwing them back and the Doctor mentioned that they want bodies and then we never talk about it again. Which is, actually, what I thought he was going to do about the ship from the beginning of Time of the Angels, but that did become relevant. But the thing is about that is, when we think about it, not much about the ship that was important in the episode that came before is relevant in this episode.

Who was the guy in a tuxedo? Where is the crew? So River killed a good man - are we going to completely forget that she obviously JUST KILLED AN ENTIRE CREW? Were they eaten by the Angels? But none of the systems were broken or destroyed until the Doctor and Pals were forced to hide there. If they had been eaten by the Angels, then shouldn't there have been some damage to the systems already so the Angels could get to them? And really, WHO THE FUCK WERE THEY? The entire two part thing started on this ship and we don't get anything. I'm fine if it was just a red herring, but it becomes an annoying plothole when we don't see their bodies or anything at all littering the ship when the Doctor and Pals enter it.

Speaking of bodies and people missing. I know this is a nitpick that has been done to death, particularly with Moffat, but honestly, would it kill him to write some sympathetic characters that I care about? Who are these people? I DON'T KNOW! Oh, they've been sucked into a time rip and now never existed! OKAY! ...And now everyone's forgotten about them! Oooooh! UHM. OKAY.

I wanted to care! I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I want to care! These are people! THEY JUST HAD THEIR ENTIRE LIFE WIPED FROM THE ENTIRE TIMELINE. SHOULDN'T I CARE MORE. But I didn't because I shouldn't have because they were four mooks NO ONE GAVE A SHIT ABOUT. They had no personality, I DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THEM. I SHOULD HAVE CARED ABOUT THEM. WHEN YOU WRITE CHARACTERS, YOU SHOULD CARE ABOUT THEM. They're people. They've just had their entire existence wiped out from the very face of the entire universe. Shouldn't I... feel bad? No, I shouldn't because they were cardboard and ironically, completely fucking forgettable. Forgettable characters that everyone forgot about. Good writing there, Moffat. I SURE SEE WHY YOU GOT ALL THOSE HUGO AWARDS. I know this is going to be a confusing sentence, but what I'm basically saying is, I wanted to care and I should have cared because they're people, but I also shouldn't have cared at all because he didn't write them like people.

What did he do, exhaust himself writing all those scenes of Amy dying and the Doctor comforting her as he leaves? Oh and the nearly shagging scene at the end? I guess that really would take it out of a person, my bad OH NO WAIT FUCK YOU.

And speaking of, nice change from "oooh River and the Doctor, that's such an amazing couple!" to "we should shag right now, Doctor." Not that I mind, I mean, Eleven/Amy is a million times better than River/anyone. Except maybe the giant squid. But it was such an abrupt change in character it just bugged the shit out of me.

And a few plot holes still lingered from the first episode, like if you are going on an expedition to wipe out the Angels, YOU DIDN'T THINK TO BRING ANY MIRRORS!? REFLECTIVE SUNGLASSES? A SUIT MADE OUT OF TIN FOIL, NOTHING? So let me get this straight, you are perfectly aware that you are going on a mission against extremely dangerous, extremely fast stone monsters that you need to look at to make them stop. And they can look at themselves too, and you DIDN'T THINK TO BRING ANY MIRRORS!?! Not even a fucking handmirror? River just basically came from prison and she was wearing eyeliner, even SHE didn't have a fucking mirror? What about the ones they give you in those little snappy cosmetic things FOR FUCK'S SAKE, IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DEALING WITH WHY DON'T YOU COME PREPARED. Flares? For when the torches run out? Extra batteries? Matches? Candles? Glowsticks? WHY ARE YOU MADE OF RETARDED!?

Oh right, you brought guns, that solves everyth- OH NO WAIT IT DOESN'T. YOU'RE NOT AMERICAN, FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

I'm really getting tired of what Moffat says, really. The Doctor goes on about how when you're looking at the Angels, they are stone. Just stone. They aren't Angels, they are statues, literally statues. I really really really really really hate it when the Angels can do shit when they're being stared at, like using Bob's voice in the radio because HE SAID LIKE A BILLION TIMES. IF YOU LOOK AT THEM, THEY'RE JUST STATUES.

And frankly, as a writer, his decision to have the Angels move was just frankly completely stupid to me. I really don't know what it is about writers these days and like, taking things that are scary and mysterious and then putting all this creepy unknown about it and then... they just take it away. They explain everything. I hate having things explained, I burn with the need to know and that is awesome, that's what scientists feel everyday, and I make hypothesises of what it could be and blah blah. Particularly when that thing is scary, having it explained takes all the mystery and the fear out of it. The fear of the Angels was their lightning fast ability to move when you couldn't see them. You didn't know how they moved, you didn't know what they looked like when they moved, if they changed, if anything - they were just there --- then not. It wasn't scary for me, but I could understand why it was scary and seeing them move basically made me sigh at Blink even more. Also if the Angels make those grinding sounds when they move, when the lights go out, there should be a veritable fucking din, a horrible chorus of rock grinding against rock in the darkness, and if they'd had that, it would have been scary, it would have been terrifying and ear wrenching, hearing all that noise in the darkness, but no.

Also I have to bloody ask, Amy had her eyes closed, right. And Angel was in her head. I was presuming the Angels communicated by some sort of psychic thing, because if they don't, they can't talk at all and then ... well I don't bloody know but it seems retarded to me - how do they work as a group if they can't communicate? Wouldn't the Angel in Amy's head say something about it? And the Angels willingly turn into statues? I thought looking at them turned them into statues, and honestly, that seems more scary to me, because you're freezing them, the moment you close your eyes, you are letting them go, it is you, if you close your eyes it is your fault, so don't do it, that is what's frightening about it. But when the Angels are just turning into Angels on purpose just cause someone sees them well... what the fuck.

Basically Moffat made the Angels completely not-scary to me and as a writer known for writing scary things, honestly, that's bloody shameful. Particularly when the Angels are known as his scariest monsters.

What else.

Not to be stingy or anything, but what the hell is Moffat's problem with some faith in relationships? Did he cheat on someone previously and now this is his way of excusing it to his wife by saying that cheating on people is perfectly okay because it's natural because that's stupid and it's not. Maybe Amy has cold feet, but christ, if that was what my fiancée was doing the day before my wedding I would kind of be totally pissed. I mean it was a cute scene, I guess, what with all the "Yeah!... ....... no. What do you mean. I AM THE DOCTOR I CANNOT BE DOINGS ALL THIS DOUBLE ENTENDRE UNDERSTANDING." but I mean, what? Considering Amy hasn't shown any affection for Rory at all, what? We're in the 21st century, Moffat, we try to promote the concept of not marrying someone you're not in love with and Amy is obviously not in love with Rory. Maybe I would be more convinced that this is just pre-wedding jitters if you knew a thing or two about WRITING RELATIONSHIPS. Or even, KNOWING WHAT RELATIONSHIPS ARE LIKE. AT ALL. EVER. IF SHE TOUCHED HIS HAND ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN WE FIRST SAW THEM. ANYTHING. ANYTHING. WHY ARE YOU SO SHIT AT THIS.

AUGH.

I think I had something else but I'm getting quite annoyed at myself right now so I'll come back when I think of it later in an edit.

EDIT1: This isn't the one I thought about but forgot, but it is one I just realised. It has to do with the rant up there about the "group of people coming to fight Angels, knowing what they are but are completely and utterly unprepared." They not only didn't wear reflective clothing, they wore camouflage. For the desert. Into a cave. Now I might be no genius on camouflage, but I thought that was the thing that you wore to blend into your surroundings. It seems to me that light brown would stand out quite well against CAVE.

I think I realised why I didn't give a crap about all those people who had their existences wiped out- THEY WERE ALL OBVIOUSLY COMPLETE IDIOTS.

EDIT2: I remembered what was bugging me. Well, the other thing that was bugging me. The Angels wanted to eat the TARDIS in Blink, right? It's the same reason they basically started tearing up the crashed spaceship in this episode. .... Wouldn't the TARDIS have been easy pickens? Everyone was inside the cave - none of the hundreds of Angels thought to think "Hey guys, there's a smorgasbord out there, we should go check it out." :|?
